WebP is Google's recommended format for web images because it is smaller than PNG and JPG at similar quality. Converting in bulk, in your browser, means you do not upload your photos to convert them.
PNG files are large because they are lossless. That is great for a logo, but wasteful for a photo. WebP keeps a photo looking the same at a fraction of the size, which helps Core Web Vitals and mobile load times.
Convert the photo files, keep logos as PNG if they need exact transparency and crisp edges, and always check the after size. A WebP that is still large usually means the original was very large, resize it first, then convert.
Because conversion happens locally, there is no waiting for an upload queue and no risk of a sensitive product photo sitting on someone else's server.
